About Painter Near Me

This site publishes what painting costs in every US metro area, calculated from federal wage data. We are not a painting contractor, we do not perform work, and we do not sell your details. The whole method is published so you can check it.

Why it exists

Ask what painting costs and almost every answer is “it depends, let us come and look.” That is a reasonable position for a contractor and a frustrating one for a homeowner who simply wants to know whether the quote in their hand is normal.

The information to answer that already exists. The Bureau of Labor Statistics publishes what painters earn in 361 metro areas across the country, covering 201,860 painters. From that, with a stated set of assumptions, you can build a defensible figure. So that is what we do.

How it works

We take the mean painter wage for your metro, multiply it to get the rate a contractor has to bill, apply a coverage rate to get hours, add materials, and present the result as a range. Every constant in that chain is published on the methodology page, including the ones we are least certain about.

Nothing on this site is a quote. It is a reference point, and it is most useful when you already have a quote and want to know whether it is sensible.

How we make money

At the moment, we do not. There are no ads on this site, no affiliate links, no lead selling and no sponsored placements. If that changes, it will be stated plainly here before it appears anywhere else on the site.

We think that is worth saying because most cost content on the internet exists to capture a lead. This does not, which is why there is no form asking for your phone number in exchange for a number we could simply show you.

What we do not do

We do not paint houses. We do not recommend, rank, vet or refer contractors. We do not know who is good in your town and we will not pretend otherwise. We do not collect your contact details, because we have nothing to do with them.

Getting it wrong

The figures are modelled, which means they are wrong in individual cases by design. A house with damaged plaster, a dark to light colour change, or fifteen foot ceilings will not match. Every page carries a section saying what it does not account for, and we would rather publish those limits than pretend to a precision we do not have.
